Visitor Reviews
Posted on Traci JVerified Very fun and worthwhile museum to visit; especially if you love cars! So much to see at this museum. Very well laid out. Much more than just cars. Jurassic Gardens, Military Combat Zone, Torture Museum, Titanic and more. Different pricing depending on what you want to see. We'll worth it.Posted on CharlieV2011Verified Wonderful Day! What a wonderful day! There are so many vintage cars to browse through. I enjoyed looking in each of them and remembering what riding in cars decades ago was like. The movie and tv series cars such as the Simpsons’ car, and cars from Miami Vice, Back to the Future, Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles, and Ghostbusters were all so cool and brought back wonderful memories of the 1980’s. Other vintage exhibits included advertisements from the 1950’s and 1960’s, carousels, an amusement park ride from Kiddy Land, Disney characters, and games. The camping RVs/trailers were also cool. All staff I encountered were friendly and welcoming. I could not ask for a better day!Posted on HansVerified Great automobile collection Great thing to see, the batmobile, the car from ghostbusters and many more from famous movies. Also restaured cars which are for sale. This place is so big, you could spent the entire day here. There is also an antique and collectable part which has a good quality level of items. The entire park is very suitable for children. There is also a cafetaria for food and drinks.Posted on Jane MVerified Nice family outing. Lots of surprises in this collection of all kinds of vehicles Father’s Day outing. My son, father of a toddler, and my husband enjoyed the classic cars. Really we all did. The collections of boats and old RV’s were great. Covered wagons and cooking wagon, stagecoaches. Motorcycles, classic kid’s pedal cars, old amusement park rides. Lots of famous nostalgic items like a bat mobile, Fred Flintstone’s car, the train car from the Wild Wild West. It was fun and surprising. My granddaughter loved riding the token-driven horse and the little carousel. There was an animatronic Beatles concert that she enjoyed (she’s 2). We took the tram ride which was a nice break to be outside and sitting down. We had about 2 hours to spend. You could stay longer without getting bored I believe. We did not eat in the restaurant. There are also playgrounds with climbing features for the kids. It is a good family outing. Apparently they have spent quite a bit of money developing it since the pandemic.Posted on Taylor BVerified One of the nation's largest auto collections--and so much more Talk about a rags-to-riches story. In 1960, the Grams family purchased the property of a 110-year-old, non-operating dairy farm in Volo, Illinois, a village in Lake County, 52 miles northwest of Chicago, 18 miles west of Waukegan, at the intersection of Routes 12 an 120. Their intention was to live in the farmhouse and convert the barn into a resale shop. But the teenage sons, Greg and Bill, had another idea. As a hobby, they began collecting and restoring old cars. Soon their collection began to attract the attention from people and the brothers realized there was money to be made in old cars. The Volo Auto Museum was born. Today, 65 years and four generations of Grams later, millions of people have visited the museum, which boasts one of the country's largest collections of modern and classic automobiles, including 75 classic Hollywood cars. And so much more. Located at 27582 Volo Village Road, the sprawling 75-acre complex is open daily from 10 to 5 and requires an all-day mission to cover it all. There are 45 unique exhibits and over 10,000 mechanical marvels, some that can't be found anywhere else in the world. There is an antique mall of 300 vendors, one of the country's largest collections of boats, planes and trains, a military museum, Walt Disney galleries, a 15,000-square-foot animatonic dinosaur park called Jurassic Gardens, a Titanic exhibit and a vintage ice cream parlor. Some of the most interesting items are Michael Jordan's Bentley, Elvis Presley's Cadillac, the 1966 Batmobile, James Bond's 2002 Aston Martin, the Blues Brothers' 1975 Dodge Bluesmobile, 1972 Ferrari Daytona Spyder (one of only two ever built), 1981 DeLorean DMC-12, Ford GT40, Ferrari 330 P3, 1999 Shelby Series 1, 1980 Cadillac Brougham (one of only two factory built prototype limousines built by Cadillac), 1996 Rolls-Royce Silver Spur, 1974 Cadillac DeVille Station Wagon, 1984 Lamborghini Countask and 1998 Lamborghini Diablo. For railroad enthusiasts, there is an 1868 Pullman parlor car. I wonder if they considered my 1964 Pontiac Grand Prix 429 High Output with three deuces and four on the floor?Posted on Shirley HVerified Car museum The museum was wonderful. The showcases of cars was really big. It has alot of different cars. Some to buy and some just for show. They had different themes as welI. It is a must see. The gift shop had lots of things to see. Some old things as well as newPosted on Global787151Verified I have visited numerous times and plan to go again very soon. 1st, let me be clear; I am not sure exactly when I was there last, but I think it's about 3 months ago. I have been to Volo 2 times this year, and thinking of going again tommorrow. This place is a feast for the eyes; lots of old cars to look at (or buy if that is what you want to do) and tacky carnival-flavored museum exhibits. I think the quality of the exhibits has improved in the last 15 or so years, but I always enjoyed it anyway. For sure the variety has improved. I guess I have eclectic tastes; there are a lot of different things to see. Music machines, movie cars, campers, military artifacts., cars, trucks, an airplane or two. . . I'm not sure if I'll make it tommorrow but it won't be long. It's like Disneyland for car guys!
