Is the museum fully handicap accessible, and are mobility scooters available?
Yes. The Volo Museum offers wheelchair and mobility scooter rentals, and they can be reserved online in advance here:

Most of the museum is handicap accessible, and all buildings are equipped with automatic door openers. However, because some of our historic buildings date back as far as 1848, there are a few limitations.
We do have handicap-accessible restrooms, though not every restroom on the property is handicap accessible. All exhibits can be enjoyed, but a small number of displays—such as viewing the interiors of certain train exhibits—require stairs for more in-depth access.
Please note that our outdoor property is naturally hilly, and some areas include uneven surfaces. We recommend mobility assistance for guests who may need it to comfortably explore the full grounds.
How much time should I plan to spend at the museum?
It depends on how in-depth you want your visit to be. Some guests whiz through the exhibits without stopping to read the information placards, while others spend two full days really taking in the history and details.

Are outside food and drinks allowed, or are there on-site dining options?
Yes, we offer an outdoor picnic area that guests may use during good weather.
Due to Health Department regulations, outside food is not permitted in our indoor eating areas, with the exception of guests who have special dietary needs. Any outside food brought into indoor spaces must be store-bought only—homemade food is not allowed.
We also offer onsite dining options for guests who prefer to purchase food during their visit.
Do you allow pets inside the museum?
We love pets, but for the comfort and safety of all our guests—including those with allergies or fears of animals—we only allow service animals that meet ADA requirements. Pets and emotional support animals are not permitted on the property.
